Flühli - Sattelpass - Glaubenberg

I had to take advantage of the beautiful autumn weather we had yesterday and went on a hike in the Entlebuch area. Walking in the moorlands is not easy, but the rewards are well worth it. Stunning views and colorful vegetation have been with us the whole way.

Säntis
22/06/14 10:23
I have been visiting the Appenzell Alps for a short hike at the foot of Mt Säntis. At ca. 2’500 m the Säntis is not very high. It is however a remarkable landmark as it is higher than all the surroundings summits and can be seen from far away. I didn’t go to the top as it was in the clouds. When the weather is clear, it is possible to see 6 countries from the summit (Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Liechtenstein, France, and Italy)
Here are a few pictures of this hike from Urnäsch to Schwägalp.

The Säntis

There were many flowers along the trail.

Pilatus

It is time for a few pictures of one of my latest hikes, going up Mount Pilatus (2128 m).
The Pilatus is a beautiful mountain, of which the summit can be reached by the world’s steepest cogwheel railway (or a cable car).
Views towards the valley are amazing.

The train can be seen from many places. Its maximum declivity is of 48%

When in sight of the summit...

... there was a small group of ibex grazing peacefully.

All along the way, there were many beautiful alpine flowers to be seen.

Finally, after having reached the summit, there was a great view towards Lucerne, the city being at the foot of the mountain.

Schächental

As a start to the hiking season, I went for a short stroll on the side of the Schächental. It is a valley in canton Uri leading to the Klausen pass.
It was unfortunately quite cloudy, so that I could only guess what the nice weather view would look like. It gave however a great atmosphere to the place.

Golzern
I have been for the first time to the Maderanertal. It is a gorgeous place located in canton Uri.
I have taken the small cable car (capacity of 8 passengers) from Bristen to go up the mountain.

View from the cable car toward the parking in Bristen
Once there, the view is beautiful with a panorama towards the Bristen and Oberalpstock.

In my back was a view towards the Windgällen

Gross Windgällen (3187m)

I have then started a small hike (or stroll) to get a better view of the lake.

Finally, I had a great view towards the small Golzernsee

Going back down, a view on the Maderanertal opened

Once back down, it was time for a dip in the lake

A great Tit's story...
02/07/13 18:26
Let me introduce my friends. There is a pair of great tits that has been living on my balcony for a while.

Spring came and they decided to build a family.
However, the eggs were laid, the chicks were born and the dad had some sudden doubts.
“Am I really the father? That can’t be. They don’t look like me. Has my wife been cheating on me with another tit?”
He decided that he needed to know for sure.
That’s how he came to the idea that he had to check in a book how his kids were supposed to look like. If those are not his, he’ll leave the nest…

Once reassured that those noisy chicks were really his, he went back home.
Let me introduce now the rest of the family…
Here is chick number one:

And chick number two:

Those are some noisy little birdies. They won’t stop asking for food.

So the parents have to fly away…

And fetch some food…

Again and again and again…

To be able to feed all those hungry birds

Because if they’re not fed, they turn into… angry birds!

Birth of a train station
02/06/12 15:07
A new train station is being built in Zurich. It is located under the main station and a river (which will be flowing between both station). It is part of a huge project to enhance the rail network around Zurich. On one side it will be connected to a 1.5km long bridge whereas a 5km long tunnel will be connected to the other side of the station. The technical difficulties of building such a complex system are very big, but the construction is well under way…
Here are a few pictures of this new train station…

Creux-du-Van
11/09/11 12:29
Back from Africa, I did a hike around the Creux-du-Van. It is a very interesting rock formation located close to Neuchâtel. And to stay in the safari mood, I saw an Ibex up there...

Here are the pictures of a beautiful weekend in Zermatt. You will find stunning views from the top of the mountains and pictures from inside a glacier...

Almost one-third of the 4,000-metre mountains in the Alps are grouped around this word-famous health resort, which has been visited by mountaineers from all around the world since the first successful ascent of the Matterhorn in 1865.” (Source: Zermatt Tourism)

Charmey and around
17/07/10 22:07
A few weeks ago, I’ve spent a very nice weekend in the Fribourg Alps. It is a beautiful region, with the “Château de Gruyères” at its heart. We’ve done a little bit of hiking and climbed to the top of the cable car in Charmey. More pictures here...

I’ve also added a few flower pictures in the macro gallery...
